NTT DOCOMO is actively working toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its operations. From powering mobile base stations to manufacturing and delivering mobile devices, the telecommunications industry consumes significant energy — even a single smartphone can emit enough CO₂ annually to require planting six cedar trees to offset it. Recognizing its social responsibility, DOCOMO is taking broad steps to lower its carbon footprint through advanced technologies, power-saving measures, and renewable energy adoption. 🌱 Key Sustainability Initiatives 1. Carbon Neutral & Renewable Energy Efforts Green 5G: DOCOMO provides 5G services powered by renewable energy, reducing emissions throughout its mobile network operations. - “KURKKU FIELDS” in Kisarazu, Chiba
KURKKU FIELDS is an expansive 30-hectare (equivalent to about seven Tokyo Domes) organic farm and sustainable park, located about 15 minutes by car from Kisarazu Station in Chiba Prefecture. This unique destination offers a wide range of nature-based experiences: A dairy farm where visitors can interact with animals, A play park where kids and adults alike can run free, Restaurants and shops featuring fresh vegetables, local produce, and game meats harvested on-site, and Lodging facilities for overnight stays, making it the perfect place to engage all five senses in an immersive natural environment. With prior reservation via the official website, guests can enjoy activities such as BBQs, pizza-making workshops, or join a guided field tour to learn more about the concept and practices behind KURKKU FIELDS. Guests who stay overnight can also take part in exclusive experiences like harvesting fresh vegetables, herbs, and eggs, enjoying a Finnish-style sauna, relaxing in the kitchen lounge, or exploring a beautifully curated library—currently in pre-opening phase—featuring books centered on art and nature. One of the major highlights is the art installations and upcoming events. The park is led by Takeshi Kobayashi, famed music producer for Southern All Stars and Mr. Children. Under his direction, the park hosts outdoor music festivals and live performances that make use of subterranean speakers, blending art, sound, and nature in a one-of-a-kind experience. Many of the events are also designed to connect visitors with environmental education through hands-on experiences. Works by renowned contemporary artists, including Yayoi Kusama, were created specifically for this site and are permanently exhibited for visitors to enjoy at any time.
